Feats of Strength

Not really.

I need some sort of lifting regimen. I run outdoors, I do the stationary bike, I run on the treadmill, I almost drown in the pool every now and then... but I don't do any sort of strength training. In the past, I was pretty militant about pilates, but I've slacked on that for the past... oh, six months or so. I've been doing boy pushups every other day (I can do 10 now!), but I still don't feel very toned. Any weight lifting suggestions?

10 Golden Rules for Running... sorta interesting, sorta obvious.

And... big news... I ran six miles today! It took an hour, it was boring as hell (I ran inside on the treadmill because it's sub-artic weather here in Nashville... not really), I think a guy tried to flirt with me (he gave me his buisness card... while I was running on a treadmill... first time for everything, I guess?).

And the really REALLY big news... I have a new baby brother! (Half-brother, but we'll call him my brother because he is so darn precious. If he were one of those ugly babies, I'd call him my half-brother. Not really.)

His name is Spencer... born on February 11th!

Intervals Suck

I've been doing intervals on the bike recently to lessen the pounding on the feet.

Intervals are not fun.

At least I'm in and out of the gym in 30 minutes.

It's so challenging! I feel like I make weird faces and noises during the 'work' part. Probably very similar to sex noises.

I'm trying to force myself to start weight training tomorrow. Last spring, I did an 8-week workout plan by Josh Hillis that I bought off the web. I really liked it and saw results after two weeks; however, at the time I was going to a women-only gym so I wasn't self conscious about doing situps on the ball and maybe letting a fart out or trying to hold an alternating arm-leg bridge thing (whatever) and falling over. Now I'm at a co-ed gym, and I'm much more timid. I need to get over that.

Thanks for the comments and stuff... now I know what quads are! It's good to be back in the world of running and it's so fun to read everyone's blogs and see what yall are up to. I think I got really depressed when I wasn't running and I was jealous of all yall and your ability to run/walk without a freaking space boot on.

I'm Back!

It's been forever... I guess I didn't want to jinx myself! I started running again... FINALLY... after I got my go-ahead from the orthopaedist on January 2nd. I ran a couple of times... short and slow... and still felt a little pain in the ankle.

I've been going to the gym pretty regularly for the past 3 weeks or so, alternating the bike and the treadmill. I'm so competitive with myself though, so it's hard for me NOT to push myself.

I did do a 5K last weekend... came in 25th out of 150 in my age group. It was HARD and I really think it was ALL uphill.

I did 8.5 miles worth of intervals on the stationary bike yesterday and whatever those muscles on your upper legs are called... I'm drawing a blank... anyway, those are KILLING me!

The best part though... I ran 5 miles outside this morning! That is the longest distance since the injury! I think the ankle doesn't hurt... but I'm just trying to be extra cautious.

In other news... I moved in with a friend this past weekend. Great house, great location. It's nice to have sort of a new start!

Yay!
