28 Minutes
28 minutes was all I could do.
I attempted to swim yesterday. Not aqua jog... but straight up swim. Freestyle. Laps.
I was in the lane next to the high school swim team that practices there. They were awesome. They made me feel totally inadequate, but also a little relieved because I knew they could probably save me if I started to drown.
Swimming is hard! I have a newfound respect for swimmers. I couldn't go more than one lap without taking a rest. And today I hurt.
And I'm going back and trying again tomorrow! :)

Random Christmas Memories
When I was young, I loved Christmas. Most kids do, right? The first Christmas that I remember was probably when I was 5 years old. I woke up that morning, ran into the den, and waiting for me was a bright and shiny Rainbow Brite mini-kitchen! Complete with stove and refrigerator! (I took a Women's Studies class in college so I realize now that these types of 'toys' reinforce gender roles and stereotypes and blah blah but man, I love my Rainbow Brite kitchen.)

When I was six, my mother asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I rattling off a lengthy list; I believe it included a camper (like an RV) and a horse. My mom told me that if I asked for too many things, Santa wouldn't come at all.

I recently found a letter from Santa, stuck in a photo album from forever ago. I was probably 7 years old. My letter to Santa asked for only one thing: for our puppy, Sandy, to return home. (Sandy was a yellow lab that we only had a few weeks before she ran away.) Santa wrote back, saying that Sandy now lived with a really nice family, who had changed her name to Lady. I don't remember what I got that Christmas.

My family would go to Opryland Hotel here in Nashville for Christmas brunch each Christmas. My grandparents would come into town and stay at the hotel. My grandmother would take her big purse to the buffet and stick as much food as she could into it while going through the line. Mostly rolls and desserts.

One Christmas, that same grandmother received a Black and Decker Snakelight. She wrapped it around her neck like a scarf, turned it on, and Christmas proceeded as usual.

Injury Update
I don't think I posted after my last visit to the orthapedist. Is that how you spell that? Anyway. I think I went into some sort of depression and I just didn't want to talk about the fact that I was told I couldn't run until at least January. I'm going back to the doctor on January 2nd for round-freaking-FOUR of x-rays. It is continuing to heal, but I was told that I couldn't do any weight bearing exercise until I got the go ahead from him. I'm really hoping I get clearance at the next visit... it has been 75 days since I last run.
Oh yeah, and I signed up for a marathon. So, I really really really hope I can start training--but not OVERTRAINING (lesson learned!)--for that soon.
On a totally unrelated note, I think these are the ugliest boots I have ever seen. And they are Marc Jacobs, so they cost over $300!

One of those nights...
I tried to be good, honest. I started out strong and responsible... adult, even. But then there was alcohol, and things sort of went downhill. I'll replay the night for you by showing you the text messages that I sent out yesterday. Enjoy.
2:37pm Yea or nay to sportsplex? [Sent to my workout buddy.]
2:43pm I was told not to bike so that's out for me. [After he suggested going on a ride. Stress fracture still preventing any weight bearing exercise... arg.]
2:56pm I think exercise will be more theraputic. Endorphins! 4 ok?
5:37pm I'm at sportsplex myself. Swimming rocks. [To my friend who texted me that he was at the Y.]
7:19pm Wouldn't mind having an adult beverage at some point. :)ETA of 745 [To my friend I was going out with. I failed to mention that I already had one adult beverage by this point.]
7:46pm Leaving now
8:30pm Drinking playing photo hunt trying to move nashville to number one drunk city WOO [To my friend in Denver. MSN recently had a listing of the 'drunkest' cities and Denver ranked #1. Nashville was 20-something.]
9:44pm NO naked yet. Oh crap. I'm a bit drunk. [Not a dirty or suggestive text... friend in Denver asked if I was playing 'erotic' photo hunt.]
10:39pm WOO HOO I ROCK [Yeah. Not too sure about this one.]
The end.
